🚛 What Truck Drivers Need to Know About the May 12–14 DOT Roadcheck
Every year, the Commercial Vehicle Safety Alliance conducts a major 72-hour inspection event known as the International Roadcheck—and in 2026, it’s happening May 12–14. This nationwide (and international) enforcement effort, supported by the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration, is designed to ensure drivers and vehicles are operating safely and in full compliance with regulations.

During this 3-day blitz, inspectors will perform the Level I inspection, a detailed 37-step process that checks both the driver and the vehicle.
🔍 What They’re Targeting in 2026
This year, inspectors are focusing heavily on two major areas:
1. Driver Focus: ELD Violations
Inspectors will be watching closely for:
- Electronic Logging Device (ELD) tampering
- Falsified or manipulated logs
- Hours-of-Service violations
These issues are a top concern because many drivers attempt to hide driving time or misreport duty status.
2. Vehicle Focus: Cargo Securement
They’ll also zero in on how loads are secured, including:
- Loose or shifting cargo
- Improper use of chains, straps, or binders
- Loads that could fall, spill, or affect vehicle stability
Improper cargo securement has led to thousands of violations and is a major safety risk on the road.
⚙️ Other Key Inspection Areas
Even beyond the focus points, inspectors will still check:
- Brakes, tires, lights, and suspension
- Driver credentials and medical cards
- Signs of fatigue or impairment
- Seatbelt use and overall compliance
If serious violations are found, drivers or vehicles can be placed out of service immediately, meaning you’re not rolling until it’s fixed.
âś… Final Thought
This inspection isn’t just about enforcement—it’s about safety. The best way to stay moving (and making money) is simple: tighten your logs, secure your load, and stay inspection-ready every day—not just during Roadcheck.
